The story of…The Colour of Fury

This is that final post. But really, is it final?

I ask that because I thought the series would end with Cutting Ties - everything had been wrapped up, more or less. And one day, as I was preening myself in front of the mirror, having written a fairly decent trilogy in record time, I froze. I hadn’t wrapped everything up at all. There was still one man outstanding - his name was Kingston, and he was at the top of the heap, the Big Man.

And really, I probably wouldn’t have realised that had I not inadvertently written a cliff-hanger at the end of Cutting Ties. If you’re reading this, it probably means you’ve read the books so you won’t mind me mentioning a little spoiler here. Regan’s mum, Pam, finds Regan’s gun and goes after Kingston herself. I ended the book where Pam confronts Kingston. Yep, I ended it there, we didn’t know what happened to either of them.

Sheesh, couldn’t really leave it like that, could I? People would have hunted me down and pointed their fingers at me!

So, The Colour of Fury was born. And yes, this time we do see a real conclusion to the story, and a conclusion for the nasty characters who’d inhabited those books. I was quite pleased with myself. But still there are people who want more - they really love DS Regan Carter - and I do too.

I invented her as a new sidekick after Khan left DI Benson. And I liked her right off the bat - my favourite trait of hers was hating dead bodies and being forced to work among them almost every day. I could imagine her cringing, closing her eyes and searching for her happy place. So she will definitely still appear in the Eddie Collins books fighting crime and fighting Eddie alongside Benson. As to these questions raised by readers:

  1. Will Regan and Eddie end up as a couple, or will there being romance between them?

  2. Will there be another Regan Carter book or series?

Firstly, I don’t know.

And secondly, I don’t know.
